I love to travel and this would be the first post to my Author’s website so I better tell you what I am doing touring the Italian Riviera. Well, it all started way back when we came up with the idea of buying a motorhome and touring Europe. That’s another story and now we are still touring Europe but now with a Caravan and that’s another story. So to continue…

Italian Riviera

It wasn’t far to our next planned stopover still in the province of Liguria. As we meandered up the coast we hit the town of Sestri Levante just south of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. We researched the best campsite and chose Camping Fossa Lupara. We were a little hesitant at first because of the entry road that runs right under the E80 motorway. I emailed the staff and their amazingly friendly reply clinched the deal and we were on our way. Yes, the entrance was a bit hairy with our 8m caravan in tow but all went well and had a great reception. It’s a small site but it has a lure about it. We really enjoyed our time there. All set up it was now time to explore the Italian Riviera and first post, of course, the local town of Sestri Levante.

Sestri Levante

Travelling can be what you make it: stressful, exciting, interesting, tiring enlightening, and costly. So after our summer ‘vacation’ housesitting in UK and France, we headed back home, to our caravan. We left it with the Camping site in Sestri Levante on the Italian Riviera, just south of Genoa. This place has all the tourist comforts of beaches, restaurants, historical buildings, monuments, the best views, and shops galore. We intend to rest up here for a week or so before we head off to our next destination, Croatia, but that has been known to change.

Portofino – Walkabout time 😎

The Walk between Bau Bau beach in Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino is a Must-Do if you’re on the Italian Riviera. Portofino of course is popular with the rich and famous, cruise ships (there were two when we were there), and the not-so-rich-or-famous nomads like us. Lots of stylish yachts are anchored in the harbour and tied up at the marina. It is a delightful place to rest after the walk and have a beer while watching the various nationalities with their tour guides mop their brows and eye my beer. Plenty of lovely little FREE beaches on the way back for a swim to cool off.

Santa Margherita

You may be thinking all these Italian towns look the same but that’s only because they just love to paint their house’s in those bright authentic Mediterranean colours. It was the same in Greece where they just loved the national colours of, yip you guessed it, blue and white. there are lots of towns scattered along the Italian coast and all are quite close to each other. Santa Margherita Ligure is up towards the famous Portofino (our next post). We stopped here for a look-see and swim, was such a hot day at around 35 C.

Rapallo

Last post before we leave Italy for Croatia. Every visit to the string of townships scattered along the Italia Riviera is truly jaw-dropping for any number of reasons. Rapallo is where the affluent Italians rest their heads in retirement and there are some lovely hillside and harbourside villas to show for it. After our stroll along the waterfront and up through the old town, we snacked at a 1910 enoteca. Our lovely waitress who could almost have been there since it opened bless her, advised us on the menu choices and we were provided with another reason for jaw-dropping with added heart rattles.
